Things are moving more quickly now. Thursday the plans of the wicked were set in full motion. They gathered that evening for the Last Supper. Jesus called out the betrayer who excused himself from the table and went to seal Christ's fate. So many important things happened that Thursday 2000 years ago:
-Jesus explained the New Covenant
-He instituted the Communion sacraments
-He washed the feet of the disciples to teach them about servanthood
-John 13-17 records his last teaching which have been labeled the "Upper Room Discourse"
-He prayed so earnestly in the garden that blood came out of his sweat glands
But things quickly turned from spiritual and profound to petty and evil. The mob came. Peter swung his sword. Mark lost his robe. Lies were told. Denials were made. Violence ensued. A series of five mock trials began. The plot to kill Jesus involved Sadduceess, Pharisees, Scribes, Elders, Romans officials, Roman guards, a fickle a crowd and Satan himself. Late Thursday evening Jesus began a series of beatings, mockery, and humiliations that did not end until the Son of God was found dead on a cross at 3pm on Friday. But that wasn't the end....stay tuned for Sunday.
